Ship Model Diorama Of The Barque "Brilliant" (1901-1916). Sunk Inscribed: "Barque Brilliant, Sunk By German Submarine March 30 1916..." The Brilliant was built in 1901 by Russell & Co. in Port Glasgow, and first owned by The Anglo-American Oil Company. At the time of construction, it was one of the two largest four masted sailing ships in the world. It was sold to a German company in 1914, but was seized by Britain near the English Channel with the outbreak of WWI. The Brilliant was then sold to Norwegians and renamed "Bell," and was sunk by a German U-Boat in 1916. This early 20th century model is mounted as a diorama with papier mache waves and painted sky. The frame retains its original wavy glass. Piece approximately 31.25W x 22.375H x 7.125D in.

Attributed To William Pollard (American, 1801-1872), Ca. 1865-1861, Portrait Of The Ship Enoch Train, Oil On Canvas. Signed illegibly, lower right. The steam icebreaker Enoch Train was built in 1855, Medford, Massachusetts. She was commissioned as a Confederate privateer in Algiers, Louisiana in September of 1861. The CSS Manassas would then be converted to the first ironclad ship built for the Confederacy. She was sunk in battle on April 24th, 1862, at The Battle of Forts Jackson and St.Phillip, the decisive battle for possession of New Orleans, Captained by Alexander F. Warley.

Warren, Glen Ridge, N.J. who told him that this lowboy and gate leg table I purchased from him October 5, 1926, were heirlooms and that they were forced to sell on account of losses in the stock market.
