Caroline Young - "Timeless Devotion"

Unnumbered Print. Signed Bottom right hand corner. 24(w)"x36"(h) FRAMED

Portrays the story of the beautiful Queen of Mongolia, who was taken to be the Emperor of China's wife after her husband was killed in battle.  As much as the Emperor tried to win his new wife's love, her devotion to her late husband never faded.  The dragon in her robe symbolizes her husband, the phoenix represents her, showing that though they are parted in the physical world, their spiritual bond remains.  There is a wedding knot in the horse's tail, also representing their bond.
Caroline R. Young's soft, lyrical brush work and graceful composition has earned her critical and popular acclaim. Although her Japanese themes brought her to fame, Young decided to return to Chinese historical subjects. "I wanted to pay homage to my great-grandparents, who immigrated to Hawaii from China, and to commemorate the bicentennial celebration of the first Chinese to arrive in Hawaii."

Caroline Young is currently at work on her most ambitious project to date, the Immortal Twelve Suite. The paintings on silk will depict legends of the twelve signs of the eastern zodiac. This is a major project for the artist which will last for many years, and one which promises to cement Youngs place in the ranks of outstanding contemporary artists in America.
