Caroline Young - "Weaver of Destiny"

LITHOGRAPH PRINT.
22/88 Limited Edition
29"(w) X 35"(h) FRAMED
Silk linen and gold leaf in a black lacquer frame.
Signed and stamped left corner.

Portrays the story of the Weaving Maiden, the youngest of the 7 daughters of the Queen of Heaven.  The Weaving Maiden weaved the most beautiful silks in Heaven.  But one day, on a visit to earth with her sisters, she fell in love with a cowherd and decided to stay on Earth with him.  When the Queen found out, she forced her daughter back to Heaven and separated the lovers by putting the Milky Way between them.  Eventually, the King took pity on his grieving daughter and allowed her to see her love on the 7th day of the 7th month of the Chinese calendar by sending magpies to create a bridge between the two.  This bridge appears as a rainbow to the people on earth.

Caroline R. Young's soft, lyrical brush work and graceful composition has earned her critical and popular acclaim. Although her Japanese themes brought her to fame, Young decided to return to Chinese historical subjects. "I wanted to pay homage to my great-grandparents, who immigrated to Hawaii from China, and to commemorate the bicentennial celebration of the first Chinese to arrive in Hawaii."

Caroline Young is currently at work on her most ambitious project to date, the Immortal Twelve Suite. The paintings on silk will depict legends of the twelve signs of the eastern zodiac. This is a major project for the artist which will last for many years, and one which promises to cement Youngs place in the ranks of outstanding contemporary artists in America.
