Jean Jacks first grade teacher predicted she would become an artist, and at age 13, her prediction began to take its journey to reality as Jean was awarded a five year scholarship to the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, Texas. Jeans artwork reflects her travels from the snowy peaks of Alaska, to the shadowy Pyramids of Mexico and the rainforests of Puerto Rico. Jeans inspiration came from the people and their culture.
Jean being a true artist was never confined to any medium, subject, or style. To her the subject dictated the medium and style. Jean was ambidextrous and so was never confined to a similar stroke. She viewed herself as a romantic dreamer and preferred impressionism, albeit she was skilled in realism. Jean believed Art should be something that takes you away from the reality of this world. Art is an escape.
Many of Jeans ideas came to her in dreams; she was extremely sensitive to everything around her and could easily cry at a beautiful piece of music or a panoramic view. Like the old masters she carefully cultivated her memory by observing nature, the environment and when needed would paint from her photographic memory.
In 1975, after a lifetime of traveling, she ended up settling on our island, of Kauai. She was not immediately inspired by the beauty of Kauai, but the beauty within its people and their ways of aloha that captivated her heart.
Many of Jeans works are preserved on fine Mikasa fine china and other porcelain plates ideal for collecting. Jeans works have become Hawaiian heirlooms passed on to future generations as family treasures. Each piece represents her artwork which was based on years of her artistic and creative ability.
