Carin Palcer was born January 3, 1966 in Vienna, Austria, and studied at the University for Applied Arts in Vienna, and later at F.I.D.M. Design and Marketing College, Los Angeles. Palcer is convinced that each color gives off its own energy, and that this energy has healing powers. The artist pushes this quest even further, however, by combining various forms into a kind of algorithm: a sun can be seen to rise, reach its Zenith and set again. In these combinations, pure forms seem to acquire a life of their own. In her art the particular sense of spirituality is created, which has an oriental Zen like quality about it. A circle can be used to symbolize Mother Earth or the planet Mercury. Gold can evoke a spiritual search for divine, non-created light.

Palcer participated in the "Remake Berlin" exhibition and her work is on permanent exhibition at G & G Private Finance in Monaco.  Her work is actively sold in the global auction market.
This plate numbered A 1531 is from a limited edition of The Merry Musicians'.
Eighth plate in the Village Life of Russia Collection, the first collector's plate series from Fedoskino, where Russian lacquer art began. The Merry Musicians' was created from a true Fedoskino lacquer original by Master Artist Natalya V. Leonova and is produced in layers of pigment and gold on hard-fire porcelain in an edition to be ended forever after a maximum of 195 firing days.

Certificate of Authenticity is included along with any other documentation in the original box.  Please note that this box had water damage which passed over to the papers inside the box.

This is an unnamed original lithograph by Joan Miro, signed in the lower right corner. This was bought as an authentic lithograph and appears to be as represented. There are small amounts of ink or paint on the back. Not shown on the picture of the painting is a few pencil marks in the back area. These lithographs are not numbered and the possibility exists that this is the original. I am reducing the value by several thousand dollars simply due to not finding the name of the painting.

Reita was the first of the Nevin siblings to apprentice with the Nevin Workshop, an intaglio printmaker's studio started by her father Arthur Nevin. There, at its inception, she helped create many of the innovative and creative intaglio printmaking techniques now used by the artists who attended. Learning colorist and printmaking techniques, Reita developed the skill necessary to qualify her as a professional fine art printer. Upon completion of her term as an apprentice she became a registered intaglio colorist and printmaker and for several years gave instruction to a group of area artists.

Becoming a full partner in the Nevin Workshop, Reita began collaborating with her father on a number of wildfowl backgrounds for the American Decoy Series published by The Nevin Workshop. Since then she has worked on many diverse images, focusing on her interests in wildlife. Using her extensive knowledge of the etching process, Reita's work is extremely technical as well as sculptural.

Limited Edition Print

Signed and numbered 193/650

Below: Note from Artist
This scene gives you a ground level view of flushing quail. A covey will often hold until you are right on top of them and then burst up in all directions. I've talked to people who've actually had them fly right into their chest! That would wake you up in a hurry.

Some drawings have their own surprises that you just don't realize until they are finished. I really noticed that about the natural camouflage of these Bobwhites. Quail rely heavily on being able to hide in brushy cover and this piece shows how the feather shapes and patterns blend in well with the patterns of the bark and leaves. Imagine how tough it would be to find these little fellows if you were a fox or a weasel. Nature can be so clever.

"Breaking Cover" was one of the most difficult and complex drawings I have done and won several Best of Show awards. It is available as a signed and numbered limited edition of 650 prints.

"At the End of the Day" Job 14:14  by Larry Dyke First Edition print 16" x 20 1/2".
Signed and numbered 299/1000

Larry Dyke has devoted his life's work to the interpretation of the beauty he beholds in nature. His success as one of America's most loved artists is proof of his distinctive ability to create a scene that captivates the imagination of the viewer. Dyke's genius lies in his construction of intricate
and subject matter are fueled by frequent travels to the most scenic vistas in America, often accompanied by his wife and daughter. In the fall, he travels from his home near Houston to hardwood country...Vermont, upstate New York or Tennessee.

Over the summer, he may head west to California or Colorado. Some of his scenes appear almost photographic due to his exquisite attention to detail while other works are rendered in soft, moody pastels. Dyke begins a piece with a composed sketch on a prepared hardboard surface; it is then refined until it takes his unique perspective.

His deep personal belief in Christianity is the driving force that guides Larry Dyke's life and work. In his paintings, Dyke captures not only the physical beauty of the great outdoors but also the spiritual sense of perfection he views as the handiwork of God's creation.

Every painting he creates carries a related Bible verse below his signature. "When I became a full-time artist, I was impressed to put a scriptural notation on each of my paintings," Dyke states. "It is an expression of what I think the true answer to life is."

A Native Texan, Dyke began painting professionally in 1976. His first Lithographs were released two years later and today he has produced more than 100 limited editions and a number of open edition prints. Many of these images were sold out shortly after release and all of Dyke's limited editions are now actively sought after by collectors. In recent years, Dyke has combined his love of golf with his artistic talents to create the most collected sports art in the country.

Since the sale of his first painting, Dyke's career has been an unqualified success. Dyke's art has hung in the White House and in the homes of such distinguished personalities as Steve Allen, Shirley Jones, Vincent Price and Billy Graham. His work has also hung in the Vatican. At the personal request of Pope John Paul II, Larry Dyke Painted "Sharing the Faith", a tribute to the long and important role of the Church in America.

Yet even with all the accolades for his original art as well as the immense demand for his limited edition prints, Larry Dyke continues to reach inside to strive for the excellence he sees in the natural world around him. "I believe my life and career have been guided by a commitment to my faith," Dyke says. "It has instilled in me a determination to develop my talent to the fullest."

11" x 14" embossed, overall size is 15 x 19 print

Unable to read the signature, this print may be from an artist that did his work based on a photograph called "Kutenai Duck Hunter" by Edward S. Curtis (1868 - 1952).
Kutenai,  A North American Indian tribe that traditionally lived in what are now southeastern British Columbia, Can., and northern Idaho and northwestern Montana in the United States Plentiful streams and lakes, adequate rainfall, and abundant game and fish made this area the most favorable part of the plateau between the Rockies and the Pacific Coast Ranges.
Kutenai culture combines some traits of the Plains Indians with others of the Plateau Indians.  Like other Plateau peoples, however, they engaged in communal fishing, built great bark and dugout canoes. Early 21st-century population estimates indicated more than 5,000 individuals of Kutenai descent.

Note from Tom:

I'm a born and raised Texan and love the mythology of Texas and the Old West.  Tom was born in Waco, Texas but moved out to West Texas at the age of 4.  I grew up in the rural areas of the Texas Panhandle, drawing everything in sight for as long as I can remember. Graduating from Pampa High School in 1970, Tom studied advertising at Texas Tech and received a degree in commercial art and advertising in 1974 from TSTI in Waco. After being the art director at an advertising firm in Dallas, he opened Greenwood Art Studio in 1977, specializing in commercial art, fine art and advertising, in Fort Worth, Texas.  Tom currently resides in Hurst, Texas.

Tom is also the artist and creator of Golf Texas Style TM  In  February of 1990, he recalls, I was asked to create a poster for a golf tournament held by a city organization.  As I pondered the thought, I started to envision a cowboy playing golf, Golf Texas Style.  Golf Texas Style has since developed into a collection of products and merchandise based on a series of true-to-life drawings by Tom. Its about a cowboy and his horse, he explains, playing a never ending round of golf across Texas. You know the back forty Texas.

The oil painting, "DESMOINES HOUSE" was painted by Richard Schmid, the Gilcrease Museum Rendezvous painter for 1986. This limited edition print of "Desmoines House" was issued in May, 1986 to commemorate the 1986 Gilcrease Rendezvous exhibition of works by Richard Schmid. This is number 277/300 of the signed, limited edition print. 17" x 26"

Richard Schmid was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1934. His earliest artistic influence came from his maternal grandfather, Julian Oates, an architectural sculptor. Richard's initial studies in landscape painting, figure drawing, and anatomy began at the age of twelve and continued into classical techniques under William H. Mosby at the American Academy of Art in Chicago.

Mosby, a graduate of the Belgian Royal Academy in Brussels and the Superior Institute in Antwerp, was a technical expert on European and American realism. Studies with him involved working exclusively from life, at first using the conceptual and technical methods of the Flemish, Dutch, and Spanish masters, and eventually all of the late 19th century European and American painters. The emphasis in each period was on Alla Prima, or Direct Painting systems of the various periods. However, Richard's individual style and the content of his work developed along personal lines.

In 2005, Richard Schmid was presented with the Gold Medal award from the Portrait Society of America during their annual portrait conference held in Washington DC. Richard is also the recipient of an honorary doctorate degree from the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts in Old Lyme, CT.

At ceremonies hosted by the American Society of Portrait Artists in the Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2000, Richard Schmid received the John Singer Sargent Medal for Lifetime Achievement. Richard Ormond, Sargent's grandnephew, presented the award. In May 2005, Schmid received the prestigious gold-medal award from The Portrait Society of America at their annual conference held in Washington, DC.

Do you like auctions? Well here it is. "Unsung Heros" a signed Artist Proof lithograph signed by artist Joan C. Marigold. This was painted at a time that Joan was the Auxiliary President of the National Auctioneers Association. Unsung Heros by Joan C. Mangold is a classic depiction of a 1920s era auction. Aside from the automobiles in the picture it may look like many public auctions still popular today.  The image whimsically captures the energy of auction day, in a multi-ring auction which spreads beyond the confines of the yellow and white striped auction tent.

WASHINGTON CROSSING THE DELAWARE From a painting by Emanuel Leutze / Eastman Johnson In a last ditch effort to keep Americas hope of independence alive, General George Washington planned a surprise attack on England's Hessian mercenaries at Trenton in December 1776. On Christmas Day, Washington led his troops out of Pennsylvania and across the Delaware River that evening. Marching nine miles to Trenton, the American forces completely surprised and routed the Hessians on December 26. America's dream of independence was still alive.

WASHINGTON REVIEWING HIS RAGGED ARMY AT VALLEY FORGE From a painting by William T. Trego At Valley Forge, the Continental Army's 1777 winter quarters, General Washington helplessly watched his army begin to disintegrate. The troops were deserting or leaving as their enlistments expired. Fortunately, in early 1778, Major General Baron von Steuben of Prussia began drilling the troops despite the language barrier. The men responded enthusiastically and General Washington was able to breach camp in the Spring with a well-trained force.

Interesting Facts about Thacher Island
The island encompasses about 50 acres
Only operating Twin lighthouses in America
One of only seven twin and one triple light all on the Atlantic Coast
The eleventh and last lighthouse built under British rule in 1771.
The original First Order Fresnel lens from the south tower is on display at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in Groton Ct.
The first lighthouse to mark a dangerous spot along the coast, all previous lights were built to simply to mark harbor entrances.
First test site for Winslow Lewis modified Argand lamp in 1814 later adopted for use in all U.S. lighthouses.
Twin lights were used to be distinguishable from other lights on the coast prior to the development of revolving lenses and unique blinking patterns were incorporated.

A Bit of History

Thacher Island was sighted by Champlain in 1605, by Captain John Smith in 1614, and by how many more before that, nobody knows.
The name comes from a shipwreck described as "pathetic" by historians. A small boat out of Ipswich , bound for Marblehead , was caught in the Great Storm of August, 1635, and was dashed to pieces on the rocks of the Island . Of the twenty-three passengers and crew, only Anthony Thacher and his wife survived, watching helplessly as their children and friends were swept away.
On September 3, 1635 , the General Court voted Thacher 40 Marks. Also, in 1636-37, the General Court voted to grant Thacher the Island "at the head of Cape Ann , as his inheritance."
In 1717, the Island was sold by John Appleton (an heir of Thacher ), of Ipswich , to the Reverend John White - 30 acres, more or less, for 100 pounds.
In 1726-27 the Reverend John White sold to Joseph Allen for 175 pounds. This was Joseph Allen, Jr. who owned it at his death in 1750.
In 1771, the Colonial Government bought it back for 500 pounds. The same year, the twin lighthouses were erected and lighted for the first time on December Twenty-first.
The present 123-foot granite towers were completed in 1861 raising the lights to 166 feet above sea level. In 1888 the Town of Rockport adopted the Seal of the Island as its official seal.

Early in this century, four families lived on the Island , to run the lighthouses and fog whistles. Descendants of these families still live in Rockport.
The north light was shut off in 1932, as an economy measure. The Coast Guard, which had manned the Island for many years, removed its last crew of four men in 1980. At that time, the south light and the fog whistle had become automated, and the Town of Rockport took over the Island by lease from the U. S. Coast Guard.
In 1983, the Thacher Island Association was formed as a non-profit organization to support and encourage historic preservation and restoration of the structures on the Island . The Association financed the design and construction of a custom made aluminum launch, a mini landing craft, to provide access to the Island .
Major restoration work was completed in 1988 on the once abandoned North Tower it was re-lit and approved as a private aid to navigation. A 15 watt fluorescent lamp replicates the amber light of the original oil lamp and can be seen for almost eight miles.
In the summer of 1998 the Coast Guard installed a solar panel to power the south tower and fog horn.
The entire Island and its structures were designated as a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service. This designation in January of 2001 officially recognizes Cape Ann Light Stations significant impact in our nations maritime history.
A total restoration of the brick two story duplex Assistant keepers quarters and a guest apartment on the Island took place during the summer of 2002 allowing the Town to begin renting the guest apartment and providing an income stream to be used for further restoration. The Association maintains volunteer keepers on the Island during the summer months to assist and inform visitors, and to provide the daily upkeep needed for a ship-shape facility.
Also in 2002 the southern 28 acres of the Island and its structures were deeded over to the Town of Rockport by the U.S. Coast Guard. The north end and tower is owned by the U.S. Fish &Wildlife Service and managed by the Town on their behalf as a wildlife refuge.
Future plans include restoration of the island and its structures to their original 1800's condition and keep it open to the public as a historic and educational facility.

"Too Close For Comfort" Pintail Drake by Blaine Billman, signed and numbered 35/650

(pen and ink/graphite12-1/2 x 15-1/2   Drawing time-327 hours)

Blaine Billman has been studying the people and cultures of the Pacific Northwest for many years and has blended their dynamic art styles with his contemporary pen and ink techniques.  These one of a kind images offer a unique perspective on the bold and graceful art of this region. His intricate and highly detailed drawings are done using a crow quill pen and a very time-consuming pointillism technique.  Drawing times for an individual piece average about 250 hours and require infinite patience.  It is important to be true to the spirit as well as the idea so research for his work is extensive.  His unique style of blending the spiritual with the natural aspects of his subjects show a deep respect for the cultures of the Northwest Coast "First Peoples" and make a valuable addition to any collection.
Blaine's wildlife pen and inks have been awarded Best of Show at every major wildlife art show in the U.S. that presents awards and his work has graced the covers and pages of several publications including Outdoor America, Wildlife Art News, and Idaho Wildlife.  Blaine Billman's pen and inks have also raised thousands of dollars in support of wildlife and environmental projects through such organizations as Ducks Unlimited, the Nature Conservancy, and the Isaac Walton League.

About a year ago Jane and I were traveling from Texas to Ohio and back. We decided to go by the Patton Museum at Fort Knox because, during the Vietnam War, I was stationed at Fort Knox and worked for General Patton III.

We found that the museum had been moved to over near the gold depository and that the museum store was closing. One of the employees told me that this picture was acquired for the museum store and I bought the one they had left. There are two small dings in the wooden frame.

The picture's conception holds significance in that in was painted back in 1997.  It's not like so many other paintings that came out after 911 but rather painted when Patriotism wasn't as popular as it is today. The overall dimensions are 25" X 31". This is number 764/7476KY This is hand signed by the artist-Michael Sloan.

"The painting was created to depict the symbols of America's Freedom.  The eagles soar above our nation's Capital in Washington, D. C.  Symbolically they guard and protect the Freedom of all Americans, just as the men and women did who served in our wars and as the Americans who serve in our military today.  We, as Americans, all enjoy this precious and intangible commodity called Freedom".  Michael Sloan, Artist

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Michael Sloan was born in Davidson County, Tennessee on July 2, 1947, and grew up in Madison, Tennessee. He received four years of formal training at the Memphis Academy of Arts (now the Memphis College of Arts) and graduated in 1969 with a BFA degree in advertising design. Professionally, he free-lanced as an illustrator while developing his personal style of painting.

In 1973 Mr. Sloan published his first limited edition print, "Tennessee Winter", which was an immediate success (the print is now worth $1500). For the past seventeen years the artist has continues to publish "The Michael Sloan Collection" of limited edition prints; watercolor landscapes of Tennessee's hills and countryside. In 1982 Mr. Sloan had the honor of being a featured artist at the World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee and created a commemorative poster for the Fine Arts Pavilion. Nancy Noel: A Reverence for Life
Art heals, informs, transforms and inspires. Nancy Noel, a philanthropist and painter, is also a visionary. She captures the essence of her subjects, depicting them with reverence which quiets the mind and comforts the heart. Noel's timeless paintings describe a world both natural and mystical, with a finesse that speaks directly to the soul.

Sensitive portraits of animals and Amish children made Noel a household name. The intimacy of the Amish children portrayed is not seen in mainstreamed American culture.
This is a highly original rendition of a seafaring ship hand painted on velvet cloth by the artist J.D.C.  The technique used in this requires the artist to overlay layer after layer of thick acrylic paint across the underlying velvet background.  This requires the artist to work very quickly, and often with paintings such as this one, no mistakes can be made as nothing can be corrected once it's been placed upon the velvet. This item has a slight tear along the left edge of the velvet, but the painting itself is in excellent condition, and remains in its original frame, ready to be displayed.

Frederick Leighton (1830-1996) was an English painter and sculptor. He is well-known for his mythological and historical paintings. He was born in Scarborough to a family in the business of import and export. Because his family was well-off he had a good education and training. At the age of 24, when he was in Florence, he painted the procession of the Cimabune Madonna through the Borgo Allegri. This historical painting of Leighton was later bought by Queen Victoria. His paintings made him famous in London and he was also elected President of the Royal Academy in 1878, and was titled Baron Leighton of Stretton. He was the only English artist to be honored by the title. However, he could not live longer as a Baron. He died the next day he was given the title. That made him the shortest-lived peerage in the history. His remained unmarried throughout his life. His house in Holland Park is the Leighton House Museum now. The museum houses a number of drawings, paintings, and sculptures by him. Through the museum one can take a peek at the life and works of Leighton from very close. Although he could not live longer as a peerage, he lived fully as a painter and sculptor.

Sterling Silver Pearl Bracelet

"Patchwork" Signed by artist: Brooke Morrison
Limited Edition Numbered 186/200
Framed: 27" x 11"

Brooke Morrison, a native Utah, graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Fine Arts. After a diverse and comprehensive training in art, she chose to specialize in printmaking. Her current focus is with silk screen, etching, and embossing techniques. Here she combines the skills of the artist, craftsman, and chemist, using methods which have changed very little since the first etchings. Brooke hand tints each etching, uniquely setting it apart from the typical print. It is because of the versatility and capacity for pure expression that she finds these media particularly exciting. She is continually conscious of the use of pattern in her work. "Everything is either a negative or a positive form. Pattern in not a boring repetition; it is rhythms and intervals; it is staggering the tensions. That's what makes art exciting." Brooke Morrison's work is currently on display in many galleries throughout the western US.

Signed by artist: Stella Slimko

This is an original oil on board by Stella Slimko. On the back is an inscription "A "Bachelor-Type" Painting for a "Bachelor Type" guy! August 1965. Thus dating this picture as 47 years old. The evidence is that the lady, Stella Slimko, painted this picture for her lover who had adapted to the bachelor life style. This painting was a way of nudging him into marrying her. Stella would have been in her twenties at the time and is now in her seventies. I have located her phone number and am trying to contact her. Hopefully I will do so before the auction. I am interested in the results of her pursuit. There is a small, not very noticeable, cut about the size of a pen tip.

This is a beautiful print of the Fort Worth Texas Courthouse. This breathtaking hall was constructed in 1893, slightly northwest of the site where the original 1849 fort marked the city's beginning. This is the third courthouse to be built on this site; the first burned in 1876, while the second was demolished to make way for a larger building. When it was constructed, the building's $500,000 price tag so angered the citizens that they voted the county commissioners out of office. The building itself, with its red granite walls and four-faced Seth Thomas clock in the tower, was designed by the Kansas City firm Gunn & Curtis. It was restored in 1983 and still functions as a courthouse.

This is a woodblock print of Salvador Dali's "The Centaur". It is signed in the plate, not a personally signed copy (though it appears to be an original signature to the untrained eye).

Between 1951 and 1960, Dali created 101 watercolor drawings to interpret the Salvador Dali Divine Comedy, a poem by Dante Alighieri (1265-1321). These works have been reproduced using a wood engraving technique.

Woodblock printing is a technique for printing text, images or patterns used widely throughout East Asia. Originating in China in antiquity as a method of printing on textiles and later paper. The earliest surviving examples from China date to before 220, and woodblock printing remained the most common East Asian method of printings books and other texts, as well as images, until the 19th century. Most European uses of the technique for printing images on paper are covered by the art term woodcut, except for the block-books produced mainly in the 15th century.

Vincent Van Gogh painted at least 18 paintings of  Olive Trees mostly in Saint-Remy during his stay at the asylum in May 1889 through 1890.
One painting, "Olive Trees in a Mountainous Landscape", was a compliment to "The Starry Night".
The National Gallery of Art summarizes this series: "In the olive trees- in the expressive power of their ancient and gnarled forms - Van Gogh found a manifestation the spiritual force he believed resided in all of nature. His brushstrokes make the soil and even the sky seem alive with the same rustling motion as the leaves, stirred to a shimmer by the Mediterranean wind. These strong individual dashed do not seem painted so much as drawn onto the canvas with a heavily loaded brush. The energy in their continuous rhythm communicates to us, in an almost physical way, the living force that Van Gogh found within the trees themselves, the very spiritual force that he believed had shaped them."

Dimensions are 10" x 14".Heavy paper.

Hand signature by the artist: Heinz Stoecker Printed signature showing Heinz Stoecker 90' Frame size: 35" x 39" Image size: 23" x 22 1/2" This is, perhaps, the most important painting personally to Stoecker that he ever painted. Heinz fell in love during his High School years with a truly beautiful and fascinating women. He was never able to get her to say yes, but he never stopped loving her. She, instead, met another man who she fell in love with and married. Together they had a family with wonderful children and grandchildren. While in their forties, Heinz was thinking about his lost love and painted this painting. He gave it to his lost love, who hung it in her office until her retirement just weeks ago. Even though Heinz had passed away some time ago her family was adamant that the painting never cross the threshold into her home. To solve the issue, on the day of her retirement she placed the painting in the hands of Auctioneer Jane Burch to be sold at auction by WorldCrest Auctions, Inc. This framed art piece by Heinz Stoecker is of a beautiful girl wearing feathers in her hair looking up to the sky at an eagle soaring. Heinz Stoecker was born in Nuremburg, Germany in the middle of WWII. Early in his childhood in post-war Germany, it became apparent that he possessed exceptional artistic talents. As a child, Heinz had the good fortune to live in the same neighborhood where the great master Albrecht Durer, the patron saint of the German art world, lived and kept his studio. The powerful influence of Mr. Durer and several other German masters set the tone for a rigorous course of study and training. In the 1970's, Heinz came to the United States where he completed his formal art studies at the University of Texas. Through his mastery of the canvas and paintbrush, Heinz shares with us his appreciation for the beautiful landscapes and scenery of the southwestern United States. His attention to perfect detail balance, and color has earned him broad recognition in the art community as a "photographic realist." Heinz enjoyed traveling the southwest photographing and sketching scenes for future paintings. One of his greatest joys from traveling was meeting people and sharing his experiences. After traveling throughout the United States and Mexico searching for the ideal place to make his home, Heinz discovered the well-established art community of Taos, New Mexico. Considered an "artist's artist" among his peers, Heinz's studio was a frequent gathering place for many fine artists. Heinz was also an accomplished instructor whose seminars in person and on television have motivated many aspiring students to start careers as professional artists. Heinz Steocker's paintings have been shown in exhibitions throughout the United States and are currently in the homes and offices of fine art collectors around the world. Towards the latter part of his life Heinz Stoecker lived in Houston, Texas. He passed away on February 12, 2001.

The Bridge of Narni by Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot measures 26 x 37. Corot, who devoted his entire artistic study trip in Italy to landscape - and allegedly spent little time at all in the museums - was profoundly affected by the Roman countryside he visited in 1826. Afternoon Island Surf by Loren D. Adams, JR is framed and measures 37 X 25. The frame appears to be sturdy but in overall poor condition. The picture has separated from the frame. This is one that you may want to have a framer repair for you but do not have it re-framed.

Loren D. Adams is a surreal representational oil painter of the Pacific Coast from British Columbia to Mexico. He was born in Linton, Indiana, on September 28th, 1945, but his family moved to California when he was six. It was there that Adams became interested in the ocean and painting it.

As a child Loren was interested in music, art and religion.  His grandmother and father influenced his love of music.  He was educated in religious schools and eventually prepared for the seminary.

During his years at the seminary, he worked as an orderly in a Northern California hospital, and sold his first painting to a nurse.  The following day he quit his job. His first professional training was from the Famous Artists School.

The artist paints from memory, never using photographs, and paints very detailed. Thus, he is not prolific and creates about 12 to 15 major works in one year.

Loren D. Adams signed some of his works with a different name: Nathan Maxwell.  There are 11 paintings signed Nathan Maxwell as the artist was a member of the Kabbalarian Fraternal Organization for about a years time. They are in Vancouver. Mr. Adams was considering changing his name at the time.  However he changed his mind and once again went back to his birth name.

Documentation will be provided from the auction company.

This appears to be over 100 years old and is an antique! "This portfolio contains twelve full-color pictures of land and sea selected from among the most popular subject from recent Providential Mutual calendars. It is presented to you with the compliments of" Charles H. Butz TA 3371(the first part was printed and the name and number was hand written.)

From what I can find out, the artists sold their paintings to Provident Mutual who used them for their various calendars. They then used them as the main picture for their calendars. From these pictures, they choose the best ones and put them together in the portfolio. The first painting ultimately sold for $36,000. Most were sold in that range. The total value of the paintings is probably over $500,000. I was unable to find anything on most of the prints and some of the oils.

I will add more information as we get it. Provident Mutual was acquired by Nationwide in 2002. The building used in this book is now a Philadelphia Police Department Building. The Nationwide Archives Department is researching this for me. There is no record of another book in existence.

Heritage Bone China,Made in England saucer with gold trim, measuring 5 7/8" diameter.
Print by Andres Orpinas. Wrinkles and frayed edges. Gifted artist Andres Orpinas was born in Chile and he began his art studies when only a child. He came to America in 1962 and quickly became popular. Andres is known for his lovely, romantic landscapes, still lives and paintings of children. His works share an intimacy with the viewer that has made them extremely popular as prints, collectable plates and as needlepoint. Andres Orpinas died in 1993. This particular print is very rare. After an extensive search we could not locate it. The value estimate is due mainly to its rarity.
Geisha Round signed Trinket Box, three gold legs, measuring 3 1/2" diameter box with clasp.
HOMCO White Porcelain Geisha Statue 1443.  It measures approximately 7"tall  x  3"across the base. It is in perfect condition.
This is a print in the manner of Vincent Van Gogh. There is no signature on this print. However, I can find no evidence that Van Gogh signed the original. Although it is numbered (29/95) it is unlikely that this is an original numbered print. There is still value in this print due to the quality of the paper and the desirability of this piece of art. Size 11" x 15" plus 1" border
LITHOGRAPH IN THE MANNER OF HENRI MATISSE, BEARING THE SIGNATURE IN A LIMITED EDITION TITLED "NU", CIRCA 1906. This print bears a number 28/50 and a signature. it is in my judgment that signature is not original. The number appears as though it was hand written by someone other than the artist. I could not find any evidence that there was ever a limited printing of fifty copies of this or any other Matisse printing. If I am wrong then this is an eight thousand plus print. But I would not bet on my being wrong. It is still a nice piece, more so at the reduced value I am giving it. It measures 14" x 10" with a 1" border.
Size: 14 1/4 x 8
Lithograph in the manner of William Brice bearing the signature, titled "Faded Roses".

Born to actress Fannie Brice and gambler/criminal Nick Arnstein, April 23, 1921, he spent his early years living with his mother and his sister Frances (later the wife of producer Ray Stark), while their father was in prison on a variety of charges stemming from a history of thefts, swindles and confidence schemes. Artists such as Clifford Odets and the Gershwin brothers were frequent visitors. His talent was recognized early, and even in childhood, he had the services of a private art tutor. Important influences included then-active artists Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, (one of whose works Brice acquired at the age of fourteen).

Their mother, pursuing a career in radio, moved them to Beverly Hills. There he attended the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles (193739, 194042), as well as the Art Students League of New York in New York City (193940). His first solo show of paintings and drawings was presented at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art in 1947. The early work was figural and representational. A 1950 L.A. Times review of his solo exhibition at the Frank Perls Gallery (Beverly Hills) praises the still lifes "that stress the geometrical aspects of common objects. Over time, he moved in the direction of greater abstraction, but rejected more progressive movements such as Abstract Expressionism and Action Painting. His work was characterized by expert draughtsmanship. He is particularly remembered for the classic modernism of his late work, in which masses reminiscent of ancient ruins figure prominently, inspired in part by an important trip to Greece in 1970.

From 1948 until 1952, he taught at the Jepson Art Institute in Los Angeles, and the following year began his long tenure at UCLA, continuing until his retirement in 1991, where he was a beloved teacher, and mentored generations of artists, for whom he offered a connection to European Modernism.

Brices work is part of the permanent collections of such major museums as the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, the Art Institute of Chicago and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City.

At age 86, he suffered injuries in a fall, and never regained consciousness before dying at the UCLA Medical Center on March 3, 2008. He was survived by his wife, Shirley Bardeen, whom he married in 1942, their son John and two grandsons.

I could not absolutely confirm the signature. If it proves to be authentic, it increases the value dramatically.

Opalescent Swans Original Arnart Creation, opalescent Swans, one has a blue crown stamp numbered 1531, the other has blue crossed bows numbered 33/148.  7 1/2" high 3 1/2" across, with gold beak and feet.
This is a nice print by Francis Lee Jaques titled " The Morning Dove". This is a poster print that measures 9" X 12" plus a 1" border. The print is not numbered and the signatures not original. It is in great condition.

Note from Tom:
Im a born and raised Texan and love the mythology of Texas and the Old West.
